Photographic Updates
As you know by now, Phlicka's colt was rushed into the hospital, bleeding from his throat, and front leg; having been dragged from the pen by the cougar. Although he was able to stand up on his own, he was clearly in dire distress, and on the brink of death. Now, he still suffers from pneumonia, plus a long and dangerous recovery process, to overcome the injuries.

We were unable to photograph him in the hospital.

Day 6 --- Home from the hospital. Safe enough to move, but definitely NOT out of the woods by any means; he goes through bandage changes three times daily, including a sailine rinse and scrub; on top of medications and shots to both stop infection and treat pneumonia. He is very tired, but does stand to drink from his mother quite often, and was even seen trotting and cantering for a brief moment in the evening; his first time ever.
Here he is with Ally, and sleeping by himself (Phlicka's shadow is over him)

Day 7 --- Photographed during bandage changes. The surrounding tissue on his neck had become necrotic, and sluffed off on the left side; revealling the two deep puncture wounds from the cougar on his throat. On the right side, the necrotic tissue is still present, and only now sluffing off to probably reveal four deep holes from the teeth; plus other damage.
This is what he's facing, on top of the pneumonia; a process which requires constant monitoring and cleaning to prevent further infection.

Day 9 -- More necrotic tissue has given way on the right side of his neck, revealling the depth of the tooth holes. He's in pain, every time there is a bandage check, or a clensing; but it is a necessary evil to keep the wounds from becoming infected. He likes to rub them (they itch) and get shavings inside them. More saline rinses, and medication....
The left side is starting to get under control and the necrotic tissue is mostly gone. Now we need the healing to begin.

Day 11 -- His wounds are starting to look MUCH better, but he's still not out of the woods yet. Medications are still being administered both through shots and applied medicated cream to the tissue. The bills are over $8k at this point, and climbing!
He loves his caretakers though... Ally, Kim and Andrea.

Day 15: 1/13/17 -- He's doing remarkably well. The direct medication creams are helping him immensely! He's spunky, full of life and starting to show his personality quite a bit more. His three human angels are keeping a close eye on him.
Day 24: 1/22/17 -- Charlie is beautiful, vivacious and bouncing around.... The wounds are healing nicely now, the one side has almost completely scabbed over, and his skin is still bare & rough; but it will improve with a little more time.
Day 28: 1/26/17 -- Almost closed!!! He doesn't wear the bandages anymore, but still adorns his hoodie for playtime. His skin feels very rough without the fur there, but what an improvement from day one!
The vet bills are still incredibly high, and as he still needs to continue treatment at home, the bills continue to pour in. Your donations are helping immensely during his recovery! Every little bit helps!
